SPECIALITIES
I offer specialized skills in the field of Mechanical Engineering and in particular in the design and packaging of high performance Opto-Mechanics. I was a member of the original design team of the KENIS range of Thermal Imaging systems(TIs); the only 3rd generation Infrared (TI) systems (i.e. 3-5µm staring array) ever to be developed and produced in South Africa.
For the past fifteen years I have specialized in Opto-Mechanics, in this time I have developed the following applicable skills:
- Opto-mechanical design a specialized field which presents unique challenges in terms of packaging of optical materials into mechanical structures intended for use in harsh environmental application and ensuring the optical systems performance is maintained during operation;
- Fine mechanics design techniques required to achieve precision and repeatable movement of optical components within structures when exposed to harsh environmental conditions.
- Analysis techniques required to insure that the system is strong yet ridged enough to meet the optical requirement of both tilt and de-centre of optical components, within a required mass and thermal budget.
Stress Analysis at system and component level.
First Order Thermal Analysis at system and component level.
Model Analysis the field of measuring and analyzing the dynamic response of structures.
